BENEFITS SUMMARY

This summary is an overview of SOSC’s employee benefits. Written materials relating to each plan/benefit are provided to each employee and should be carefully reviewed. Please note that Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance benefits are available the first of the month following date of hire.


Medical

We provide four coverage options and pay 100% of the premium (employee only) for the Kaiser or Blue Shield HMO Plans. See below for more information, including a summary of coverage and bi-weekly cost to the employee based on the medical plan they select.

Blue Shield HMO

Office Visits: $25 primary care physician, $50 specialist
Hospitalization Co-Pay: $250
Prescriptions: $5 generic/$15 brand/$25 non-formulary

Blue Shield PPO

Office Visits: $20 primary care physician, $35 specialist
Prescriptions: $10 generic/$30 brand/$50 non-formulary after $200 brand deductible

Blue Shield Health Spending Account (HSA)

The deductible for this HSA is $4,500 for individuals and $9,000 for families. Coverage after the deductible is 80% for Blue Shield contracting doctors and hospitals. Prescriptions are also covered after the deductible. HSA enrollees are able to take advantage of special tax incentives.

Kaiser HMO

Office Visits: $20
Hospitalization Co-Pay: $250 per admission
Prescriptions: $15 generic/$35 brand

Dental and Vision

Special Olympics Southern California pays 100% of the premium (employee only) for the HMO Dental and Vision Plan. See employee contribution amounts below.

Dental — Assurant

Employees may select either a PPO or HMO Dental Plan. Special Olympics Southern California pays 100% of the premium for HMO coverage for employees. The PPO Plan features a $1,500 annual benefit maximum. The HMO plan features reasonable co-pays for services and coverage for orthodontics.

Vision — VSP

Benefit is provided for eye examinations and equipment. Special Olympics Southern California pays 100% of the premium for employee coverage. The examination co-pay is $10. The exam and lenses are available every 12 months, frames every 24 months.

Flexible Spending Accounts

This plan allows employees to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for unreimbursed health care expenses up to $2,550 and child day care up to $5,000. Accounts are administered by TASC.

Short-Term and Long-Term Disability

If you should become disabled according to our policy, a portion of your income will be paid for the duration of the disability until normal retirement age. SOSC pays 100% of the premiums for this coverage. Provider is Cigna.

Life Insurance

All employees enrolled are provided an amount equal to one times annual earnings for life and accidental death and dismemberment. SOSC pays 100% of the premiums for this coverage. Provider is Cigna.

Voluntary Benefits

Cigna - Employees may purchase Life Insurance for themselves and their families at low bi-weekly payroll deductions.

Colonial Life - Employees may select from a menu of available coverages which include life, critical illness, accident or cancer insurance policies for themselves and/or their families at low bi-weekly payroll deductions.

Paid Holidays

Special Olympics Southern California offers employees 15 paid holidays per year:

New Year's Day Friday before Labor Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Labor Day
President's Day Thanksgiving Day
Memorial Day Day after Thanksgiving Day
Independence Day Holiday Shutdown - 12/23-12/30

Vacation

Vacation accrual schedule:

  • Year 0-3: Ten (10) days per year
  • Years 4-8: Fifteen (15) days per year
  • Years 9+: Twenty (20) days per year

Note: The maximum amount of hours an employee may accrue is 240 hours.

Sick Pay

Special Olympics Southern California offers 12 days per year, and up to six of those days may be used to care for an ill family member.

403b Retirement Savings Plan

The 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan is administered by TIAA-CREF. Employees may be eligible on their first day of employment to contribute to the plan. After 12 months of employment, SOSC will match 50% of the first 6% the employee contributions to the plan. (EXAMPLE: Employee contributes 6%; SOSC will match 50% which is 3%)
