Coach and Team Volunteer Roles
Team Volunteer | Level 1
Enrich the lives of athletes in life-changing ways. Assist Head Coaches and Coaches with sports and non-sports training activities, while supporting athletes in developing skills and confidence. This is a non-coaching role and does not provide instruction to athletes. Team volunteers assist with sports and non-sports training activities.

Certified Coach | Level 2
Coaches teach the skills and instill the spirit that defines a true athlete – they are role models and character builders. Coaches assist Head Coaches with developing and implementing a comprehensive sports training program. Training is provided in the core coaching components and sports-specific essentials in traditional Special Olympics and Unified Sports.

Certified Head Coach | Level 3
Create, organize, and execute a comprehensive sports training program, while leading a team of coaches and athletes, in this critical role. Head Coaches help athletes identify and develop their own strengths and abilities while showing them how to build upon those strengths and improve every day. Advanced training is provided for coaching traditional Special Olympics and Unified Sports.

Young Athletes Roles
Young Athletes is an early childhood play program for children ages 2-7 years old, with and without intellectual disabilities. Through developmentally appropriate games and activities, participants develop foundational skills including fitness, strength, balance, coordination, body awareness, adaptive skills, and visual tracking.
Team Volunteer | Young Athletes
Young Athletes Team Volunteers support Coaches and Head Coaches by assisting with program operations and participant engagement while helping create a positive, inclusive, and fun environment for all participants.

Coach | Young Athletes
Certified Young Athletes Coaches assist the Head Coach with organizing, preparing, and conducting Young Athletes sessions. Coaches provide instruction, demonstrate activities, support participant skill development, and help create a positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for participants and families.

Head Coach | Young Athletes
Certified Young Athletes Head Coaches provide overall leadership for an assigned Young Athletes program site. Head Coaches are responsible for planning and conducting program sessions, supporting participant development, coordinating Coaches and Team Volunteers, fostering family engagement, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.

Other Sports Roles
Games Team Management
Be a part of the magic behind every competition. This team makes up the athlete experience and brings joy to athletes, their families, spectators, volunteers, and more. Games Management Team members are responsible for overseeing event-day operations of their assigned area. Responsibilities include training and leading event-day volunteers.

Sports Clinicians
Provide instruction and a platform for Head Coaches and Coaches to learn the rules and regulations of their sport. Sports Clinicians are responsible for presenting a sports-specific training curriculum for the purpose of helping volunteer coaches meet their certification requirements. If you have experience with SOSC sport rules and regulations and love to help train other coaches, come join us!

Sports Officials and Referees
Ensure the safety and rules of the competition and ensure the integrity of the sport. This is a great role if you love staying in the action of the game and engaging with our superstar athletes. If you have experience officiating, or would like to learn more, come join us!
